--A Little Reality from a Survey Panelist

Need a little extra income each month?  You can earn extra money each month from the comfort of your own home. While some sites tout you can earn $150/hr doing focus groups, you should know that focus groups are specialized types of surveys that are ususally few and far between.  So don't quit your job as you read this!  Most people can't count on that kind of money for full-time job type income.

So what about those sites that claim you can make $700/week?  Making $100 per day, every single day, is not going to happen.  The sites with over-the-top claims are usually the sites that also want you to pay $30 or more just to view their list of survey companies.  You should never pay for a list.  Real survey companies never charge to join, or ask for your credit card information -- and the sites that charge for their lists don't have anything better than some good free sites.  Chances are, if you purchase your list of survey companies, you may set yourself up for either future credit card fraud from sketchy con artists, or at the very least, give an open invitation for a boatload of spam.

The real truth... most surveys pay between $1 and $8 each and take 10-20 minutes-- there will be those that pay more, or some that take more time, but the bulk of them will be in that range.  You will also find survey companies that only offer sweepstakes entries or points that exchange for cash payments, Visa gift cards or products.   These same survey companies, that you think will just stick you in monthly sweepstakes, will sometimes send you free products to test for large companies.  You usually get to keep the product and you get paid for the survey, too.

It's absolutely worth signing up for all of them, and then deciding which surveys to participate in after you actually have the invitations in front of you.  It is always 100% your choice whether or not you participate, with no penalties if you don't.

The best way to take advantage of earning...  I am repeating myself here, but if you really need to make money, sign up for at least 15 companies -- even the ones that offer mostly sweepstakes. 

Why? 

Different research companies have surveys available at varying times.  You never know which research company big businesses will pick to do their research.  Plus some of the random companies you didn't think were worth your time end up send out great opportunties that actually pay well.  (For example:  In one instance, a follow up survey I was taking for a product test told me, out of the blue, that I was receiving an additional $40 in Amex gift card for appreciation.  This did not include the free product I tested and the survey money I got.  Not Bad!)

Tip:  Create a separate email just for surveys.  This way you can filter out the surveys you don't want to do, and it won't pollute your regular email.
