Dieting for the New Year...  Tips for Making Your New Year's Resolution a Success.
by C.D. Watson

Every year people who want to lose weight make the same resolutions.  Some are successful, some are not.  It never fails that the New Year brings the old addage"This year will be different". So, will it?  If you are making a resolution to lose weight this year, here are a few tips to get you started.

1. Set realistic goals. The part where most people go wrong is setting unrealistic goals. Most people aren't going to lose a pound a day for 2 months straight. That's not realistic and it's not healthy. Not only that, but if you falter on your goal you may just get depressed and quit altogether -- not very productive

2. Start on the right track. Check out some diets and supplements and see which is the best fit for you. Not every diet is for everyone. Find the right fit for you and you will likely be more successful.

3. Reward yourself at intermediate goals. As with any goal-setting process, you should reward yourself at pre-set intermediary points. Reach a pre-set goal and get a reward. This is great for keeping focus and staying on track.

4. Recognize the Truth About Fad Diets. If you need a fad diet to get that first 10lbs off with a quickness, go for it. But the bottom line is that no fad diet is good for long-term weight loss. It may provide great motivation to see that initial drop on the scale, but it is important to recognize that most of that weight is water and can be quickly regained. Also, continuing fad diets or ultra low-calorie versions can pose significant health risks.

5. Make a cheating plan. Know that if you have to diet more than two weeks you will likely cheat at some point. Its OK to cheat, as long as you get right back on track. So, when I say make a cheating plan, it doesn't mean make a plan to cheat, it means make a plan for your reaction to the event, so you don't lose sight of your goal.

Everyone can be successful at weight loss when they are ready, and it becomes a positive experience as you move toward your goal.  Trying to diet when you are not ready to do it, however, will not give you the most positive results. So, get ready in your own head, and you will succeed.
